The internet is changing how we do just about everything. From communicating with friends to buying products online, the internet has become ubiquitous with who we are as individuals. This is also true in the world of wine. Today, you can find a wealth of information online about any region, wine style or personalities. This technology has been elusive, and at times, expensive to harness, but it doesn’t have to be once you learn the basics of online communication.
At the Boutique Wineries Tasting, we’ll be highlighting some of the more dramatic ways in which the internet can help you to not only promote your own brands, but also discover new brands that might be perfect for your customers. All day, we’ll be streaming live and showing pre-recorded clips from the 2009 harvest in the Douro Valley. Quevedo Port Wines in collaboration with the local municipality will stream parts of this harvest online for us to enjoy. And as an added bonus, select wines from their past vintages will be on site to taste and import. Quevedo is currently not available in the UK, but in online wine communities worldwide, they are already a household name, as a result of their engagement with social media.
2pm – 2.45pm – Understanding the Basics of Social Media
The internet is being used to sell wine. The question being, how are they succeeding at it? Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, and several other social media tools are all being used by the wine industry to sell more wine! Over the course of 45 minutes, we’ll give you the cliff note version of how this happened, what you need to know, and what you should look forward to in the future. Additionally, we’ll provide you with tips and tricks for getting online today and using it effectively.
5pm – 5.45pm – Social Media in Action
Throughout the day, you will see a large video in the main room covering the 2009 Douro Valley harvest. How did we do that? Can it be replicated? What does it cost, and what are the benefits? We’ll give you ideas on how to create this yourself, and real world examples of how you can use these tools to sell more wine. Free tools like QIK, Ustream, Livestream, and many more can be leveraged to offer a unique service for your clients.
